On the morning of August 30, 2023, the Hanoi People’s Committee held the Inauguration Ceremony of the Vinh Tuy Bridge Construction Investment Project Phase 2.
Attending the ceremony were Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Politburo member, Hanoi Party Secretary Dinh Tien Dung and leaders of ministries, branches, central agencies and Hanoi city.
TEDI, as the design consultant for the project, also attended the Inauguration Ceremony of Vinh Tuy Bridge phase 2.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and delegates cut the ribbon to inaugurate Vinh Tuy bridge phase 2
According to design, the bridge has a similar shape to Vinh Tuy bridge phase 1 and is located parallel to each other. Vinh Tuy 2 Bridge has a clearance height of 11 meters above the water surface of the Red River. The bridge has 8 lanes, including 4 car lanes, 2 bus lanes and rudimentary vehicle lanes. According to this design, Vinh Tuy bridge, after completing both phases, will be the first bridge in Hanoi to have dedicated lanes for buses.
Tổng chiều dài dự án bao gồm cầu và đường dẫn là 3.473m; gồm 61 nhịp (8 nhịp liên tục dầm hộp đúc hẫng cân bằng vượt dòng chủ; 44 nhịp Super T vượt bãi sông phía Bắc; 3 nhịp dầm hộp đúc hẫng cân bằng vượt đê Tả Hồng; 6 nhịp dầm hộp bản rỗng đúc trên đà giáo), mặt cắt ngang cầu trên toàn tuyến B=19,25. Sơ đồ nhịp toàn cầu: (60+130+5×135+90)+(39+3×40+7x(5×40)+4×40+39)+(55+90+55)+(6×35).
The total project length including bridges and access roads is 3,473m; including 61 spans (8 continuous spans of balanced cantilever box girders crossing the main stream; 44 spans of Super T spans crossing the northern riverbank; 3 spans of balanced cantilever box girders crossing Ta Hong dyke; 6 spans of hollow plate box girders cast on beams bridge), bridge cross-section on the entire route B=19.25. Total Bridge span diagram: (60+130+5×135+90)+(39+3×40+7x(5×40)+4×40+39)+(55+90+55)+(6×35).

Cross-sectional of Vinh Tuy bridge
– Based on the current site control conditions and traffic organization of Vinh bridge, when designing the bridge phase 2, the main cantilever bridge part TEDI was designed with a span diagram of 60+130+5×135+90= 955(m). At that time, the ratio of the side span to the adjacent main span: 60/130=0.46, not according to the usual standard ratios of 0.65 – 0.7. This solution meets the actual conditions of the problem, does not require demolishing the 30m box girder span, and minimizes traffic closure time during construction.
– When applying a non-standard edge span length, the bearing position at the edge pier will have an extraction force and the construction of misaligned cantilevered blocks has many potential safety risks. TEDI’s design engineering team has proposed a solution to structure the cast on the KT17 scaffolding with a solid cross-section (cast volume of about 261 m3) to eliminate the extraction force, and at the same time create a counterweight to hold the boom with an offset span when Cantilever construction of the next cast blocks to solve the problem.
Structural calculation model of Vinh Tuy 2 main bridge
- Applying BIM modeling technology in design work: TEDI has applied BIM modeling technology in design to increase productivity, design quality, and accurately and quickly calculate design volumes; Control collisions and conflicts and come up with solutions right from the design stage. Tekla design software is applied to carry out design work including from longitudinal data, conducting global models from pile structures, pedestals, body, cap beams to cantilever box beam structures and other Other details such as pillows, expansion joints, railings…

The investment and construction project of Vinh Tuy 2 bridge was started by the Hanoi People’s Committee on January 6, 2021. The bridge has a total investment of more than 2,500 billion VND from city budget. It is invested and built according to planning, to complete the entire Ring Road 2 in Hanoi city; Enhance traffic capacity between the two banks of the Red River, meeting the rapidly increasing transport demand between the center of the capital and the northern and northeastern areas of the city.
