Implementing the Decision No. 2729/QD-BGTVT dated 19/12/2018 issued by the Minister of Ministry of Transport regarding approval on construction investment planning of Dong Hoi Airport in the period 2018 – 2025;
By that, in the period of 2019 – 2021, Dong Hoi airport should be invested to expand the aircraft apron in sync with the construction of a passenger terminal with a capacity of 3 million passengers / year.
Transport Engineering Design Inc. (TEDI) is the Consultant who implementing the Package 2: “Surveying and preparing F/S Report” under the Project for “Expansion of the Aircraft Apron in front of T2 terminal – Dong Hoi Airport”. On June 30, 2020, Vietnam Airport Corporation (ACCV) and Transport Engineering Design Inc. (TEDI) signed a contract with implementation progress of the package is 60 days.
I. Existing condition of Dong Hoi Airport
Dong Hoi Airport has the coordinates of latitude 17ᵒ05’00 North and longitude 106o35’30” East, located in the area of Loc Ninh commune, Dong Hoi Town, Quang Binh Province. The Dong Hoi Airport is apart from the north of the center of Dong Hoi Town 6km. The East of the Dong Hoi Airport is about 1.8 km from the coast, the West is apart from the National Highway 1A (at Km654) about 0.8 km. Dong Hoi Airport is located next to Dong Hoi town, adjacent to National Highway 1A, near Ho Chi Minh road. From here, the transportation by roadways and airway to other areas of the country are relatively convenient.
According to actual data, the annual growth rate of passenger and cargo transport demand grew strongly from 2013 to 2018, which is an average of 36.1% / year.
Currently, there are one runway direction 11 – 29 in Dong Hoi Airport with the following main factors:
– Dimension (long x wide): 2400x45m;
– Cement concrete pavement structure;
– Pavement shoulder by bitumen aggregate, 7.5m wide on each side.
–There is one taxi way in the Dong Hoi Airport with cement concrete structure, dimension of 144.5x18m.
– Existing aircraft airport having cement concrete structure which is under operation meeting 04 parking locations of A320 / A321 aircraft with self-rolling in and out mode.
II. Necessity of investment
Dong Hoi Airport has a majority of tourists, business and a small number of office mission passenger. In recent years, Dong Hoi has become an emerging destination for eco-tourism with new landscapes such as Son Doong cave, attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists. Dong Hoi Airport is one of the airports with high growth rates, but the aircraft apron only meets 4 C-aircraft parking positions (A321).
Thus, the expansion of aircraft apron of the Dong Hoi Airport ensures 8 parking places of code C to meet the passenger and cargo transport needs in order to meet the capacity of 3 million passengers/year, equivalent to 8 parking positions of code C aircraft is extremely necessary.
