On the morning of 19 May 2025, the People’s Committee of Hanoi City held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Tu Lien Bridge and Approach Roads Project (from the Nghi Tàm intersection to the Trường Sa intersection). This is a key transportation project with strategic significance, connecting the central area of Hanoi with the northern and northeastern districts across the Red River.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh delivered a speech at the groundbreaking ceremony.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Hanoi Party Secretary Bui Thi Minh Hoai, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh, central and local leaders, and representatives of relevant agencies and units.
TEDI (Transport Engineering Design Inc.), the main design consultant for the project, was represented by General Director Dao Ngoc Vinh, Director of the International Design Center Nguyen Nhu Quynh, and key project engineers.
According to the Hanoi People’s Committee, the Tu Lien Bridge and connecting roads play a vital role in:
- Rapidly connecting the northern and northeastern areas across the Red River and Thai Nguyen Province.
- Supporting urban development, population redistribution, and reducing traffic congestion on existing bridges such as Chuong Duong, Long Bien, Thang Long, and Vinh Tuy.
- Aligning with Hanoi’s master plan up to 2030 and vision to 2050, as well as the city’s transport development plan.
- Ensuring national security and defense while promoting sustainable urban growth and economic development targets.
Tu Lien Bridge – A New Architectural Landmark for Hanoi
As the design consultant, TEDI proposed a dual-plane cable-stayed bridge, creating a striking architectural highlight for the capital. Key specifications include:
- Total bridge length: 2.9 km, with a main bridge of 1 km.
- Structural type: Steel girder with a 500 m main span and 185 m-high towers, featuring a crisscross cable system on a single plane.
- Cross-section: 6 lanes for motor vehicles (total width 43 m), 2 mixed-use lanes, and 2 pedestrian lanes, meeting technical and urban aesthetic requirements.
The project includes four subprojects, with three dedicated to land clearance and one for the construction of Tu Lien Bridge and approach roads. The total investment is approximately VND 19,830 billion, covering a route of over 5 km connecting Nghi Tam and Truong Sa intersections, and linking directly to the Hanoi – Thái Nguyên Expressway.
Expected completion in 2027, Tu Lien Bridge is set to become an iconic infrastructure landmark in Hanoi, promoting development in the northern Red River region.
TEDI remains committed to supporting Hanoi in key projects, providing optimal technical and design solutions to contribute to a modern, civilized, and sustainable capital.
