On December 24, 2023, in Tien Giang, the Ministry of Transport held an inauguration ceremony and opened the My Thuan 2 bridge project across the Tien River, parallel to the existing My Thuan bridge.
Attending the inauguration ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai; Mr. Tran Viet Truong, Chairman of Can Tho City People’s Committee; Mr. Nguyen Van Vinh, Chairman of Tien Giang Provincial People’s Committee, along with central and local delegates.
The My Thuan 2 bridge and the access road project is one of 11 component projects of the Eastern North – South Expressway in the period 2017 – 2020, invested by Project Management Board 7.

My Thuan 2 Bridge has a total cost of more than 5,000 billion VND and officially opened to traffic, with TEDI Engineers directly conducting design survey consulting.
During the design process of My Thuan 2 bridge, TEDI engineers applied many advanced technologies and software to come up with optimal design solutions. In particular, TEDI has applied BIM technology in the design of My Thuan 2 bridge
For the main bridge My Thuan 2 , with the special nature of the project, the entire structure of the main bridge is modeled quite completely and accurately. Implemented items include:
+ Anchor structure includes pre-stressed cable system and steel reinforcement
+ Tower structure (pedestal; tower body; horizontal beam; anchor on top of tower with 2 options)
+ Bridge deck beam system structure includes main beam; horizontal beam; prestressing cable and anchor system;
+ System of accessories such as stay cable anchors; bearings; expansion joints.

Locations with complex structures are thoroughly researched and modeled in detail to control intersections that may arise right from the technical design step. From there, minimize difficulties when implementing the next steps:
- Structure at the anchor pedestal area
- Structure at the connection area between the bridge beam and the anchor body
- Structure at the tower horizontal beamarea
BIM design items of the main bridge
This is a national key project, a special-level road traffic project, with a total investment of more than 5,000 billion VND, from the state budget. My Thuan 2 Bridge has its starting point at Km101+126 at An Thai Trung intersection, located on the highway from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho City, connecting two highways Trung Luong – My Thuan and My Thuan – Can Tho, connecting the two provinces of Vinh Long and Tien Giang, is a vital road with the highest traffic volume among the main national highways in the region.
The project has a total route length of about 6.61 km (including My Thuan 2 bridge and access road). In particular, My Thuan 2 bridge has a main span with a cable-stayed structure with an aperture of 350m, a clear clearance of 37.5m, and a bridge deck width of 28m (including 6 lanes).
The main route is designed according to highway standards TCVN 5729-2012 with a design speed of 100 km/h. My Thuan 2 bridge in particular is a particularly large bridge designed with a speed of 80 km/h to reduce investment costs.
The project started construction on March 16, 2020.
My Thuan 2 Bridge is an important project connecting the two highways Trung Luong – My Thuan and My Thuan – Can Tho. When this project is put into operation, in addition to helping reduce pressure on the existing My Thuan bridge, compared to the existing My Thuan bridge, My Thuan 2 bridge has a larger scale, longer, higher and wider. The project creates new development space, promotes investment attraction… Contributes to completing the province’s socio-economic development goals for the period 2021-2025 and the following years.
