On 28 September 2025, at Km18+206 of National Highway 32C in Phung Nguyen Commune, Phu Tho Province, the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Construction, and the Phu Tho Provincial People’s Committee held the inauguration and opening ceremony of the newly built Phong Chau Bridge—an emergency construction project mandated by the Government.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and officiated the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event was also joined by General Phan Van Giang, Politburo Member and Minister of National Defence; Central Committee Members Tran Hong Minh, Minister of Construction, Dang Xuan Phong, Secretary of the Phu Tho Provincial Party Committee, Bui Minh Chau, Head of the Phu Tho Provincial National Assembly Delegation; along with leaders of ministries, central agencies, and local authorities.
As the design consultant for the project, TEDI participated with a delegation led by Mr. Dao Ngoc Vinh – General Director and the engineering team directly involved in the bridge design.
The new Phong Chau Bridge, three times wider than the original structure, restores a vital transportation link and serves as a key driver for socio-economic development and regional connectivity across the midland and northern mountainous provinces. The bridge spans more than 653 meters, features a 20.5-meter deck accommodating four traffic lanes, and is constructed with reinforced and prestressed concrete under a permanent design. The main river-crossing structure utilizes a balanced cantilever continuous box girder—an advanced engineering solution researched and proposed by TEDI—ensuring both technical performance and harmonious integration with the sacred landscape of Phu Tho.
Funded by a combination of central and provincial budgets, the project faced complex geological conditions, harsh weather, and significant schedule pressure. Through close coordination among the investor, TEDI as the design consultant, and construction contractors, the bridge was completed on schedule with high technical quality and architectural aesthetics. As a strategic link between National Highway 32C and the Ho Chi Minh Road, the project shortens travel time between Lam Thao District and the western areas of Phu Tho, while enhancing connectivity to Yen Bai, Son La, Lai Chau, and other provinces.
Beyond its engineering significance, the new Phong Chau Bridge carries the aspirations for transformation in the Ancestral Land. Enhanced mobility is expected to stimulate trade, promote spiritual tourism, expand urban development, and improve local livelihoods. As the principal design consultant, TEDI continues to affirm its leading reputation in Vietnam’s bridge and road engineering sector—where each river-crossing bridge stands not only as an infrastructure asset but also as a symbol of connection, development, and integration.
The inauguration ceremony also marked a milestone in recognizing the contributions of project teams. TEDI and two of its engineers were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Phu Tho Provincial People’s Committee and the Ministry of Construction for their outstanding contributions to the successful completion of the new Phong Chau Bridge project.
