On January 27, 2022, with the approval of the Ministry of Transport, the Department of Transport of Ninh Binh held the Opening Ceremony of the Cao Bo – Mai Son Expressway. Attending the ceremony were delegates from State management agencies and Ninh Binh province, representatives of leaders of design, construction and supervision units and a large number of people in Ninh Binh province.
The North-South Expressway Project, the Cao Bo – Mai Son section is one of 11 component projects of the East North-South Expressway for the period 2017-2020 approved by the National Assembly in Resolution 52/2017. /QH14 dated 22.11.2017.
The Ministry of Transport has issued Decision No. 1584/QD-BGTVT dated July 24, 2018 approving the construction investment component project of the Cao Bo – Mai Son section of the project to build a number of expressways on the route. North – South East in the period 2017 – 2020.
This is one of the national key projects, invested by the Department of Transport of Ninh Binh province, the management agency of the project is the Management Board of traffic construction investment projects in Ninh Binh province. This is also the only component project on the North-South expressway that has been assigned by the Ministry of Transport to the province as an investor.
The design consultancy unit is a Joint Venture: Transportation Engineering Design Inc (TEDI) & Bridge and Tunnel Engineering Consultants (BRITEC) & VNC Construction Joint Stock Company.
The project was started in December 2019 with a total length of the main route of 15.2km; 22km collection road; 7 bridges and 3 underground tunnels for people’s living. The starting point of the route is at Cao Bo (Yen Bang commune, Y Yen district, Nam Dinh province) to the end point at Mai Son commune (Yen Mo district, Ninh Binh province).
This is the first segment to be completed and operated, which will gradually form the North-South expressway in the East with large capacity, safety, high speed, meeting transportation needs;
The fact that the project is open to traffic and operated and used has great significance, making an important contribution to creating a continuous highway from Hanoi to the southern provinces. Meeting the needs of transportation, goods circulation, connecting economic and political centers, dealing with traffic flow from Cau Gie – Ninh Binh highway without going through Ninh Binh city. At the same time, reducing traffic congestion and traffic accidents, promoting socio-economic development of the Northeast and North Central provinces, creating motivation and pervasive power to continue construction and complete on schedule.
